Datasets that surely exist, somewhere

These are probably free if we could find them:

• ISBN to author, title, publisher, etc. (isbndb ?)
• Amalgamation of genealogical trees (the iceland tree?)
• WHOIS domain name table—a snapshot of the mapping from domain name to IP address (have RIPE, can’t find ARIN)
• More sports stats
  • seriously, it can’t only be baseball nuts that make this freely available
• Detailed Wikipedia search term frequency over time
• Much better and many more Material Safety Data Sheets than we have now
• Mileage chart (city-to-city driving distances + travel times)
• US Interstate highway exit lists (geolocation, exit name, highway mileage, intersecting road name)

Don’t have a good collection of these

• Political poll data; tennenbaum?

• periodic table
• chemical properties (basically, all them CRC tables)
• cross indexing of chemicals—CAS, MSDS, scientific name, formula, element count.

ideas

• recipes in standard format—find consensus ingredients for standard meals (avg/stdev on quantities, etc)
• chess moves—heat map of openings

misc

• prices/
  • new & used car prices over time
• finance/
  • stocks before 1970
  • foreign stocks
  • pink sheet stocks
  • 1-second timescale stock prices for several continuous days

• world/
  • UN
    • all that UN development data

These need to be set up

• Semantic data extraction: RSS feeds from all over
  • News media keywords by date
  • craigslist
  • mininova
  • daylife
  • FAA
